I know he wasn’t the greatest player on any of the teams he played for, but he’s got 7 rings!!!! How does that stat alone not put him in the HOF?
He has 7 rings and the record for most playoff games played. That might be enough to get him into the Hall of Fame someday, but he’s definitely not a a first ballot selection.
Horry’s been a solid role player throughout his career and as his nickname suggests has hit many big-game clutch shots.
But the real question is whether his rings and the record for playoff game appearances is due to his talent or more of a matter of him being on the right team at the right time?
In my opinion, he’s far from a lock to get in, but if his playoff game appearance record stand for a while stands for a while he has at least small shot a getting in at some point. He’s far from a lock though.

well robert is definately a superb player
i believe tat he should be in the HOF
im not even gonna hesitate on my answer
he sent almost every team (tat he played in) to the finals and a ring
i bet he will be invited to the place when he retires
lets if the spurs can withstand in game 7
debatingGang | May 17, 2008
he has 7 rings, but he’s been only riding on the spurs.
He mad big shots, he earned and deserved the 5 rings w/ the Rockets and Lakers but he doesnt really deserve the rings from the spurs that much. He’s just a free rider now
wowie_chi | May 17, 2008
i agree with you. and dont agree that he rides the spurs. i think he contributes. ofcourse hes not as big a factor in spurs but he does his part! i think he most deffinately should be looked at for the hall of fame. hes had a great carreer and been a super super solid player.
ryanhew | May 17, 2008
I wouldn’t say he didn’t deserve last 2 rings with Spurs because .. Remember Horry’s clutchness in game 5 VS Detroit ?with Dunk on Rip Hamilton

Let us pretend that the Hall of Fame is a person named HOF.
Well, HOF does not consider what your team has done for you or your team success. It only depends on that individual’s stats. 7 rings, so what? Impressive, but not what HOF is looking for.
sanga | May 17, 2008
I think players in the Hall should be an honor given only to the greatest players of all time. Even though Horry has 7 rings and has been a pivotal role player in all of those Championships, he’s certainly not one of the greatest players of all time. Using your argument, Steve Kerr has 5 Championship rings. Do you think Steve Kerr belongs in the Hall of Fame?
The Daydreamer | May 17, 2008
If you think Horry is a HOF’er, your stupid and shouldn’t be allowed to have children.
HE’S A PIGGY BACKER. Just like Sam Cassell
You and I could get seven rings sitting on the end of a bench.
Yeah yeah yeah, he made a couple big shots, but those are the only moments when he’s even LOOKED like an above average player, AT BEST.
MDC | May 17, 2008
Horry sucks that’s why he’s not hof
illusion_of_power08 | May 17, 2008
right team right time….
migmar006 | May 17, 2008
Nah. I don’t think so. Because there are a lot of great players with great achievements with a team or individually, I don’t think Robert Horry is part of the ‘great’ players. Yes. He may have hit crucial shots to be called Big Shot Bob but he is the case of a player at the right moment, at the right time. He is just everything right! And accdg. to him, he would give up his 7 rings to have that talent to be ‘the man’ on a team.
NMQ122289 | May 17, 2008
He’s not in the hall of fame because he is still in the active list. When he retires, then that is something to be considered. However, being in the hall of fame does not mean that he will be considered among the greatest to have played in the NBA.
babybutterbean79 | May 17, 2008
stats my friend…his numbers are horrible…yes he has 7 rings and has made MANY clutch playoff shots but the guy is terrible at what matters for the HOF…
and all this is coming from a spurs and rockets fan
jonathan b | May 17, 2008
ok, i’ll try ’splaining this again..
No, Horry’s not going to be a hall of famer.
Seven rings has nothing to do with anything. He was never the best, second best, third best, or fourth best player on his title teams.
Satch Sanders has 8 rings, he’s not in the HOF.
Jim Luscutoff has 7 rings, he’s not in the HOF.
Horry averages 25 min/game over his career.
His career scoring average is 7 ppg.
Seven points, four rebounds, two assists per game… HOF material?
Never made the all star team… how many hall of famers never made the all star team even once? Yeah, exactly.
Never made all NBA first team. Never made all NBA second team. Never made all NBA third team. How many HOFers never made 1st, 2nd or 3rd team all-league?
His only honor is 2nd team all-rookie. Not a big deal.
Against all that is the fact that he rode the coattails of Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan to seven titles.
Anyone who thinks Horry has even a remote shot at the HOF really has no clue about the guys that are already there. And they have no clue about what it takes to be a HOFer.
It’s one thing if you lead your team to seven titles… that’s not what Horry has done.
The Hall of Fame is about what you do as an individual on the court. It’s not unprecedented to keep guys with 7 and 8 rings out of the Hall of Fame.
As far as the record for playoff games, that’s due in large part to the fact that they have four playoff rounds now.
tweety | May 17, 2008
If horry is in the hall of fame then freaking manu ginobli should be in it too. Horry is a free-rider. Don’t think just because he hit a few clutch shots, it means a pass to hall of fame. A lot of better players won’t even be accepted in the hall of fame and horry isn’t even that great.
hayo | May 17, 2008
Rings dont count it….. its the impact of a certain player to THE GAME ITSELF and not only the team..
if its about rings then those who were in the celts dynasty bench warmers should be HoF too… its not always about the number of rings… its how good a player is individually how he contributed to the cause…
he was just in a certain team when the championship run happened in other words hes having a gold rush…
aside from that….
would you want to put a guy who cheap shots his way to win in the Hall of fame? to advocate that playing dirty in the sport is ok as long as you win? i dont think so…
Hisashi H | May 17, 2008
when they make a hall of fame for role players he’s in until then he’s out.
Maurice P | May 17, 2008
He is a Famer because he is clutch and he’s some of the reason why he got those rings.
