What is wrong with me?! I'm terrified of everything. Help?
I’m normally a fairly rational person. I’m afraid of normal things like under the wring circumstances getting shot or hit by a bus but little things like the dark and heights and spiders they don’t bother me. Lately i’ve been absolutely terrified of everything! I have a strong sense of impending doom, I’m afraid my fiance myself or my unborn baby are going die in violent tragic accidents, I’m afraid of giving birth I’m afraid of getting fat, of getting in the car, of the stairs, of…. Everything. I’m twenty three weeks pregnant with my first, i’m afraid to go to the doctor but I get the feeling that I should because these fears might be related to the baby nut I don’t know. I’m panicking without any real rational reason to do so and it scares me. I’m sick of being scared! Help me!!

Tell your doctor!
Cindy D | Feb 04, 2010

Sounds like your hormone levels may be a bit off. Pregnant women often have problems with depression and anxiety–ignore your irrational fear of going to the doctor and talk to your OB GYN. He or she is the best person to help you.
Carrie | Feb 04, 2010

It’s totally pregnancy hormones for sure. It’s amazing what a woman’s body goes through during pregnancy. You could be laughing one minute and balling right after it for no apparent reason. There really isn’t anything you can do about it other then try and take some quiet moments during the day where you can sit down and close your eyes and breathe deep and just imagine all those thoughts floating down the stream. Trust me, it works. I would also inform your OB, just so they can monitor you after your baby is born for postpartum depression. It’s so common. Don’t think there is anything wrong with you. It’s your hormones. I went through the same thing during pregnancy and had this fear of delivering a still birth and I could NOT stop thinking about it, until I learned how to just sit and relax when I was feeling that way and just imagining all those thoughts floating down the stream. When you are sitting there breathing, keep thinking to yourself, "calm" and keep saying it. It really does help. Hang in there and congrats on your pregnancy. =)

PS, don’t expect your hormones to bounce right back after the delivery either, you will still be feeling strange and not normal until your body goes back to normal, that’s why I say talk to your OB and tell them so they can be prepared for anything postpardum with you.

what is this eye condition called?
when i was in elementary there was a student that i didn’t like talking to because i never knew if he was looking at me or not. he always looked like he was looking behind me or something…it was really weird. i think he might of had some kind of eye disorder, does anyone know what it could be called? There’s also this show on pbs called "dragonfly tv" and one of the hosts has really weird eyes. they look like they’re both looking in opposite directions. can someone tell me what that condition is called.

amblyopia; otherwise known as "lazy eye"

sometimes called lazy eye, bit disconcerting, but not fun for them either, so we have to just settle on a viewing position and forget about one of the eyes.

Strabismus, more commonly known as cross-eyed or wall-eyed, is a vision condition in which a person can not align both eyes simultaneously under normal conditions. One or both of the eyes may turn in, out, up or down. An eye turn may be constant (when the eye turns all of the time) or intermittent (turning only some of the time, such as, under stressful conditions or when ill). Whether constant or intermittent, strabismus always requires appropriate evaluation and treatment.

Do they not have the ability to get serious burn victims out of pain before they start cutting in to him/her?
I just watched the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy and they were cutting into a poor kids burnt flesh without any form of anesthesia, in my opinion they should have knocked him unconscious, I mean, the poor kid was screaming bloody murder with every stroke of the knife!

1] sometimes
2] patient has to have stable heartrate/.breathing before sedation
3] if patient has eschar [ blackened crusty dead tissue ] cutting off circulation to extremities, it has to be cut pronto
4] this was in the ER - not after stabilized and in burn unit

I know, The Least They Could Have Done Was Give The Kid Some Morphine… I Can Not Imagine How Much Pain That Would Have Caused!
B. | Oct 25, 2009

I’m sorry, I don’t watch this show, there are a couple of possible reasons why the child did not receive anesthesia before the surgery, first of all its a tv show, therefore they don’t directly do everything that a real hospital would do. Second if the child was burnt that severely and surgery was needed right away they could have opted out of the anesthetic due to not having the fifteen minutes to wait for it to go into effect. Third with severe burns the child could very easily go into shock, giving him any sort of medications that put him to sleep or slow his heart rate could lead to his death quicker.
TdUb8 | Oct 25, 2009

Depending on the kind of burn, you can’t always induce anesthesia in a patient. Burns can put a victim in a hectic metabolic state, and give them unstable blood pressure. When you don’t know the exact injury the patient has sustained, its always risking business. If the patient was in a fire, and he sustained any damage to his lungs, putting him under anesthesia would be a questionable decision. I didn’t watch the episode, so, I don’t know the circumstances, but the amount of information you have to take into account when determining what kind of and how much anesthesia to administer is immense. Burns tend to screw a lot of that information up. The doctors can usually determine the correct amount, but if immediate surgery is necessary, and there isn’t an experienced anesthesiologist on hand, these things can happen.
Andrew | Oct 25, 2009

In real life they use anesthesia. The pain from severe burns is unimaginable and even when not being activity treated they are kept in a very, very sedated condition.

Have been in the burn unit more times than I care to remember.

The Quantum Reality………………..?
Does it mean my loves ones dont exist or they a illusion?
Or is this a misunderstanding by scientist watching to much matrix or vanilla sky?
Are they misunderstanding albert einstein quotes?
They say we minds are reality and God dont exist which i disagree
But whats your thoughts people.

Personally "The Quantum Reality" is very depressing and dont make sense
anyone agree?

Its meaning is induced by the interpretation you apply to it. There?s for example the copenhagen interpretation or the many-worlds-theorem. But at last quantum mechanics is only a mathematical tool. It?s the same problem with dimensions. People talk about multiple dimension building our reality because there exist certain theories that need them, but what people always forget is to distinct between mathematical and physical dimensions. It means, according to string theory for example, that particles _behave_ as if they were exposed to 11 dimensions, but it does not necessarily mean that we live in a world of 11 dimensions.

This is also true for quantum mechanics. Particles behave in a non-intuitive statistical way, _as if_ reality was made by statistics, but that does not imply that reality really works like this.

Everything in physics is just a model of what reality is really like. There are good models and there are really bad ones.
I?ve heard a famous physicist (forgot his name unfortunately) say, that we can compare our world and the work of physics to a game of chess. God is the player and the figures correspond to particles or let?s say physical properties in general. We see that God (God does not necessarily mean the biblical god here, it may as well just be a sort of mechanism) moves them, and by observing what happens, we can figure out ways of describing the rules these movements follow.
But that?s all we can do. Describe the rules, but never the player.

| Jan 29, 2010

The term "quantum reality" refers to the strange world of quantum physics, the physics of small particles like atoms and subatomic particles. That world has nothing to do with love, science fiction movies, Einstein, our minds, God, or any of the other things that are concerning you. However, you are right about one thing: Reality at the quantum level doesn’t make sense, and that’s a point that all scientists agree on. There are a number of good books on the subject if you want to pursue it.

Guitar Question about strings for beginners?
Ok, so I just got a guitar, and I’m going to learn to play.
But someone can’t teach me until Friday, so I wanna learn a little by myself.

Ad I looked it up on google, and I got this wikihow.com website.
I was looking at how to play the C,A,G,E,D Majors - and I got confused about the strings, because each of them said the strings were something different.
So I’m wondering what the strings are and how you count them.

I know its:
low E (thickest)
A
D
G
B
high E (thinnest)

but which string is one and which one is the sixth?
Is low E the sixth?

And when switching between notes, how do u move your fingers without taking so long and not making it feel so awkward?
Thank you guys :)

Low E is the 6th string A is the 5th and so on and so forth. And as for moving your fingers between chords, practice…..that’s all you can do
Kayda | Nov 23, 2009

>>but which string is one and which one is the sixth?
Is low E the sixth?<<

Yes, low E (the thickest) is the 6th string. The high E (the thinnest) is the 1st string, B is the 2nd, and so on.

>>And when switching between notes, how do u move your fingers without taking so long and not making it feel so awkward?<<

No magic here, just practice, practice, practice.

Good luck and don’t give up!
Lester G | Nov 23, 2009

Low E = 6th
High E = 1st

The awkwardness will go away with more practice & exposure to the instrument.
I remember it being brutally hard to hold down a bar chord when I first started. These days I can play some of the more exotic chords like using the index to fret all 6 strings at the 5th fret, ring finger to fret the 5th string at the 7th fret, & pinky to fret the 2nd string at the 8th fret.
